WHAT MAKES OUR SALSA SPECIAL?

We use the chiltepin pepper which has a unique smoky flavor with an intense spice that dissipates quickly. The Chiltepin pepper ranges from 50,000 - 100,000 scoville units. In contrast the jalapeno pepper ranges from 2,500 - 8,000 scoville units.

HOW IS CHILTEPIN GROWN?

Chiltepin typically grows wild in the Sonoran desert region. The plant prefers to remain within 75-90 degrees and stay under medium to full shade. The plant will grow small white flowers, which grow into green peppers. Once they ripen into a bright red color they are ready to be hand picked and sundried.

WHAT DO YOU EAT CHILTEPIN WITH?

Popular within the Sonoran desert diet, Chiltepin can be dried and crushed for spices, seasonings for soups, salsas, hot sauces, beans, cheeses, eggs, etc. We at Los Amaya's Salsa Co. like to use it as a table top condiment, especially on pizza!
